You can clean grout now with non-toxic oxygen bleach. Mix this magic powder with water and simply pour it onto the grout. In the time it takes you to drink a vanilla soda, the grout will be ready for a very light scrubbing and final rinse. Oxygen bleach is color safe as well. or try Lustro Italiano cleaner which work best for me. you can fin it in my source site.

If you keep using those types of cleaner, your grout will disintegrate. Go to a tile store, purchase sulfamic acid crystals to clean it. If you get it clean enough, seal with a good penetrating sealer. Clean with a phBalanced cleaner or you will remove the sealer when you clean. If the grout does not come clean completely after cleaning with the crystals, stain it using Color Fast Epoxy Colorant. It is amazing.

Since you ve tried the "harsh stuff" already , I generally find that the grout has absorbed to much dirt that it can t be cleaned. Bleach may take the coloring right out of colored grout. If your lucky and do get it clean, seal twice w/ a penetrating sealer..You may have to go to staining your grout. This is easy to do but just time consuming work.Stains can be bought almost any where tile and tile supplies are sold. You can get them in a wide variety of colors.. GL

If you tried a toothbrush along that might have helped. If not, it may be that you will have to gouge out the existing top layer of grout and re grout. I would then seal with a grout sealer from a tile house when grout is cured. good luck.
